It is a useful precursor to various drugs. Since the molecule is chiral, it exists in either of two enantiomers as well as the racemic mixture, known as paramandelic acid. Mandelic Acid is a colorless chemical, flake or powder solid, light color, slight odor. Soluble in hot water, ethyl ether and isopropyl alcohol. In the pharmaceutical industry can be used for intermediate methyl benzoylformate, cefamandole, vasodilator Cyclandelate, eyedrops Hydrobenzole, cylert etc, also can be used as a preservative.
