Mainly used as gasoline additive, it has excellent antiknock property, improves octane number, and can also be cracked to produce isobutylene. It has good miscibility with gasoline, less water absorption and no pollution to the environment. It can be improved to be used as analytical solvent and extractant. It is used as desorbent in chromatography, especially in high-pressure liquid chromatography. It forms azeotropes with some polar solvents such as water, methanol and ethanol. Methyl tert butyl ether also has mild anesthetic effect. Store in a cool and ventilated warehouse. Keep away from kindling and heat source. The storage temperature should not exceed 37 ºC. Keep container sealed. It shall be stored separately from oxidant and mixed storage is prohibited. Explosion proof lighting and ventilation facilities shall be adopted.
