Silicon carbide (SiC), also known as carborundum, is a semiconductor containing silicon and carbon with chemical formula SiC. It occurs in nature as the extremely rare mineral moissanite. As an abrasive, it can be used as a grinding tool, such as grinding wheel, oil stone, grinding head, sand tile, etc.
Green silicon carbide is made from petroleum coke and high-quality silica as the main raw material, adding salt as an additive, and smelted at high temperature in a resistance furnace. Its hardness is between corundum and diamond, and its mechanical strength is higher than that of corundum.
